 it's been about a month since the threepeat...and ive been wonderin why this season meant so much.

in our very last huddle after the hurrahs and celebration, i said to the guys, when u get old, u make sure that ur kids kids know about lamjung and that u were part it...why was this season so special?  what made 13 individuals come together in such an awesome way?

there's no mistake that this season overflowed with a little extra something...u can take a look at the teams heading into this year's nba finals...detroit, san antonio...even the teams that just got booted...miami, phoenix...these were teams that all had special seasons...special in that their type of basketball was team orientated, everyone pooling their natural gifts and skills together for one common goal...

shaq was quoted saying the miami heat was dwayne wades team...not his.  wade said the heat was shaqs team...not his.  its remarkable that in an age where selfishness is the standard, where our culture celebrates 'gettin urs', where even oftentimes, it seems that even in the nba, personal accomplishments are showcased, there are those who realize that enough is enough, there has to be more than just me.

for me...there are those who have a longing to belong...where self achievement is cast aside for the sake of being part of, being integrated into, something outside and above one's self.

this season was so special, special enough to tell my the kids of my own kids in the future about lamjung, because we were unified and came together as a single unit, a force so to speak.  jay, jack, george, will, bill, alex, stanley, kenneth, timmy, samuel, ac, paul and myself experienced that in the combining of our individual uniqueness, distinctiveness, we could become something more.

u could see it, feel it when we stepped onto the court to compete...other teams could sense that each one of us were more than just committed to this ideal...that...we had become it ourselves?  the look on the other player's faces when they realized that a) they were competing against something more than just a couple of guys who know how to play ball, and b) that in order to stop us, they themselves had to become a unit, but didnt know where to start.

we didnt want the season to end...there was a feeling of almost emptiness when we wrapped up the season with the threepeat.  i know every one of my guys misses everything about this season..everything from going out afterwards to eat...to even PRACTICES...whod have ever thunk that guys miss going to practice...we became and were part of something big...that when guys are tellin each other they miss being in practice...something big was going on.

they knew that i would do anything for them, and i know theyd run through walls if i asked them to...

so again...why was this season so special?  because we touched, we reached, we understood and experienced the ethic of biblical unity...when u go here and read this portion of the Holy Scripture...the principle of coming together as individuals and being one is found here.

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20corinthians%2012&version=31;

as an individual....ur wants, ur dreams are in someways limited to just u.  when u get more than one person, lets say two or three...wanting and dreaming the same thing, the ability to secure that which u desire is greater.  we had 13 guys...all different, all distinct, all unique...wanting the same thing.  and while some ppl may say, well its just basketball u guys cared about...

i can say that the connection thats been established among all 13 guys, the connection we fought all season long for, enables us to lend a hand to one another without even thinking, because we knew we all wanted to be together and to be one.  there was and is a safety in knowing that we can be open with each other...

lamjung was more than the perfect record this season, more than leading teams in points scored, being the best defensive team....even more than the threepeat.  click here if you want to see some stats...

but most importantly, we were about each other...and i think ppl can see that...and actually wish they could be part of us.

i am in the business of helping others find something big and great to be part of...whether its my being a coach for my basketball team, or my being a youth pastor for my youth...i want ppl to taste and experience the biblical principles that bring life that i see in Holy Scripture.

i pray that my Lord will allow me time to help my guys know more and more principles from Holy Scripture to enable them to know life...and time to help my youth know what it means to truly belong.

like the apostle paul who wrote that passage i linked to...im all about showing everyone i meet the more excellent way.
